Gift a gas card to someone in need.

How can I help?

Gift a gas card to one of the groups below in whatever amount your budget allows. Every penny  counts. Fortunately most gas stations today have gift cards that allow you to choose the amount. Be prepared to pay for them with cash as many will not take a debit or credit card for these type of gift cards.

If you do not have much to spare, but want to help you can always go coin hunting in your house and vehicles. We always have change that has fallen out of pockets in cars, chairs, sofas, and in the laundry. Scoop it up, grab the change jar and head to the bank to get a total. They may not love doing it, but they will typically not charge a fee like the kiosk in stores do. To save time you may want to call ahead to double check. After the bank the next stop is a chain gas station that offers gift cards.

Hand deliver, slide it under the door, or mail the card to whomever you please.

It can be anonymous if you prefer.

Consider adding a little note with some positive encouragement for an extra special gift.

Who is likely to need the help?

People or Families who are going through medical treatments that require lots of travel.

As we know living in a rural community offers both positives and negatives. While the positives are perceived by many to out weigh the negatives, there are tradeoffs. Rural residents often have more lengthy travel time for medical treatments than that of urban patients. When the regularity of treatments is several times per week the travel cost can be astronomical. Cost of getting to care is not covered by traditional insurance and will likely cause a financial burden for many and add added stress on top of the illness.

People or Families who are going through a rough financial time due to inflation or layoff.

Inflation is at a very high level at this time. We are all feeling the pain at the pump and the grocery store. We all hope that will taper off during the course of this year, but that does not help anyone who does not have the gas to get themselves to work.

So far this year, more than 200,000 motorists nationwide have been stranded on the side of the road, AAA said. During the same period last year — when the price of a gallon of gas was around $3 — just 154,000 motorists reported running out of gas.
